Each week, members at Lexington Services Show Low look forward to Members’ Choice Wednesdays, a special part of our adult day program for adults with special needs that encourages independence, creativity, and community engagement.
This October, members chose an activity that brought art, teamwork, and inclusion to life: building a scarecrow for the City of Show Low’s annual Scarecrow Walk at the Show Low Bluff Trail.
A Creative Collaboration with Heart
Over the course of several days, members and staff at Lexington Services Show Low designed and built a cheerful scarecrow they named “Different, Not Less.” The name represented the group’s belief that every person has unique strengths and that diversity makes communities stronger. The scarecrow even featured a hand-painted sign with ASL finger spelling, symbolizing communication, accessibility, and inclusion.
Throughout the week, the facility buzzed with teamwork and laughter. Members traced puzzle pieces to decorate the scarecrow’s pants, carved a pumpkin head, and dressed the wooden frame in bright clothing. Those who felt uneasy around the scarecrow contributed by painting rocks and signs, making sure everyone played a part.
Hands-On Learning at Lexington Services Show Low adult day program
This adult day program activity was more than just a craft project. It was a meaningful experience in cooperation, patience, and creative problem-solving. Staff members Mikayla and Michael guided small groups each day, helping the members bring their shared vision to life.
As one participant proudly shared, “It was fun to see our idea come to life.”

Celebrating Inclusion in Show Low
Projects like this reflect what makes Lexington Services Show Low’s adult day program so special. Every activity provides adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities a chance to learn, connect, and participate in the community, while discovering new skills and confidence along the way.
Whether painting, crafting, hiking, or volunteering, our members show that being “different” truly means being unique, valued, and capable.
