Adult Day Program Community Outings in Show Low

Every week at Lexington Services DTA in Show Low, members are given something powerful. A choice.

These adult day program community outings are more than scheduled trips. They are intentional opportunities that strengthen independence, confidence, and a sense of ownership over each member’s experience.

The morning began with a familiar and comforting rhythm. Members gathered together to listen as Miss Tammy read a story aloud, creating a shared moment of attention, curiosity, and connection. Storytime offered more than words on a page. It offered calm, routine, and the simple joy of experiencing something together.

After the reading, the group moved into activities designed to match the story.

Why Adult Day Program Community Outings Matter

Winter-themed bingo invited friendly competition and focus. Laughter, smiles, and quiet concentration filled the room as members followed along, marking their boards and encouraging one another.

These moments may seem simple, but they serve an important purpose. Through games, shared attention, and gentle structure, members practice focus, social interaction, and cooperative play. Each activity becomes a building block for confidence and connection.

Then came the craft. With guidance from staff and encouragement from peers, each member created a colorful spider using simple materials. Candy became the body. Bright fuzzy sticks became legs. Wiggle eyes brought each creation to life. Every finished craft reflected patience, creativity, and pride.

Building Choice, Confidence, and Connection in Show Low, Arizona.

Throughout the outing, you could feel the members’ enjoyment and excitement.

For Director Valita James, these weekly outings are carefully designed with intention.

“The outing is something I put together with the library so the members could go and interact with the community,” she shared.

By partnering with local organizations, Lexington Services DTA creates consistent opportunities for members to engage beyond the facility, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging within the community.

This is the heart of the adult day program community outings.

Not simply a visit to the library.

Not only a game or a craft.

But a meaningful opportunity for connection.A chance to learn, to choose, and to belong.

A Weekly Tradition with Lasting Impact

At Lexington Services DTA, these moments matter.

Because every story read, every craft made, and every choice given helps build a life filled with dignity, joy, and belonging.

And week by week, through thoughtful experiences like this, inclusion is not just taught.

It is lived.
